General Motors Theatre – “Never Say No” (02/22/1955)

Another day, another episode of General Motors Theatre…

On February 22nd, 1955, Shatner appeared in his fifth episode of General Motors Theater (formally CBC Theatre) in less than a year. This time for the episode “Never Say No.”

I’m going to make this short and sweet: I have no idea what the plot of this episode was, and I have seen no photos from it to even make an educated guess as to what Shatner’s role may have been. If anyone out there has any further information, I’ll never say no to hearing it.

It’s time to detail all of the connections between General Motors Theater’s “Never Say No” and other Shatner appearances!

William Needles worked with Shatner for all three seasons The Shat was at Stratford (1954-56.) This included the productions of Measure for Measure, The Taming of the Shrew, Oedipus Rex, King Oedipus, and Henry V. A few months after this episode of General Motors Theatre, he would appear once more with Shatner on TV in an episode of Scope, “The Verdict Was Treason” and then never again.

Toby Robins also worked with Shatner at Stratford, but only in Measure for Measure. One month prior he was in Scope’s “Antiquity 1954” with Shatner, and then one final appearance in September of 1955’s The Big Dig.

Sydney Newman acted as producer or supervising producer in the Shatner-featuring CBC/General Motors‘ episode “The Man Who Ran Away,” “I Like It Here” and “The Black Eye,” as well as for The Canadian Howdy Doody Show.  After this episode, he would do the same for the episodes “Billy Budd,” “Forever Galatea” and “The Coming Out of Ellie Swan.”

Further Studies

Nothing to speak of. Check out some of my earlier posts on General Motors Theatre episodes for some more info on that program and Shatner’s working life at the time.
